The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has announced an N10 million reward for anyone who provides credible information on the gunmen responsible for the attack during a burial ceremony in Ihiala.
Soludo announced during a condolence visit to the family of the late Bridget Onuchukwu in Umuike, Ubahuekwem, Ihiala Local Government Area, on Tuesday.
The police confirmed that the gunmen attacked the people during the preparation for the burial in the Ihiala community on Monday, killing nine people, including two security operatives.
Expressing his sorrow over the tragic incident, Soludo extends his condolences to the families of the victims.
He said: “I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and I want to reassure this community that those responsible for this senseless act of violence will be brought to justice.
“We will not rest until those behind this heinous crime are apprehended. Every one of them will face the law. We are actively pursuing them, and anyone who can provide us with information leading to their arrest will be greatly appreciated.”
The governor also assured the members of the community of better security.
“Ihiala security is currently being discussed and will be unveiled soon,” Soludo said.
Recall that on Monday, nine people were killed by gunmen during a burial ceremony in Ihiala, Anambra State.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the gunmen fired sporadically at a venue preparing for a January 2, 2025, burial ceremony. As they fled, the attackers also targeted two security operatives stationed near the Local Government headquarters along the Express Road.
