NIGERIA: Soludo Confident Of Re-Election, Dismisses Strong Opposition In Anambra 2025 Election

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence in securing a second term in office, stating that he has yet to see any formidable opponent in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election.
Speaking during a media chat to mark his third year in office on Monday, Soludo emphasized that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has delivered good governance, earning the trust of Anambra residents.
He asserted that the people of the state traditionally support different parties in national elections but remain loyal to APGA at the state level.
“If there is an election, and I am on the ballot, I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless the person will come down from somewhere, I have not heard of any,” Soludo stated confidently.
The governor acknowledged the growing calls for him to seek re-election but noted that the final decision rests with his party.
He explained that APGA must first nominate him before he can contest, adding that his motivation for governance is rooted in gratitude and service.
“The party has to agree to it and give me the platform. I applied for this job intentionally because I felt that’s my way of thanking God for His bountiful blessings – to spend the rest of my life serving and leaving this place better than I met it.
“If my party nominates me and my employers, the Anambra people, graciously renew my tenure, of course, it’s a great honor and a great privilege to serve,” he said.
Anambra is among eight Nigerian states where governorship elections are conducted off-season due to court rulings.
