Six protesters have been reportedly shot dead in Suleja by the Niger State Police Command, with several others wounded in the ongoing nationwide protest of bad governance in Nigeria.
According to reports, the victims were shot and killed on the spot while the police were trying to disperse some protesters who blocked part of the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The incident sparked chaos as protesters struggled with the reinforcement team sent to calm the tension.
Mr Yahaya Nda Isah, a resident of the area who was alleged to be a passerby during the protest, was hit by a stray police bullet fired to disperse the crowds.
However, Mallam Abu, along with three other persons, were reportedly killed at the scene, while two others got shot at the Suleja Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Road.
The Niger State Police Command spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that some miscreants attempted to set the Tafa Local Government Area ablaze on fire, but were dispersed by the police and the military, and the toll gate was cleared.
