The Kebbi State Government has approved a temporary reduction in official working hours for civil servants to accommodate the ongoing Ramadan fasting period.
The directive followed the formal declaration of the commencement of Ramadan by the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, prompting the state to adjust its work schedule in line with established practice during the holy month.
In a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Establishment, Pension and Training, Hafsat Tune, confirmed that the decision was approved by Governor Nasir Idris.
She stated: “The Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, has approved the reduction of the official working hours by two hours during the current Ramadan fasting period.”
According to Tune, the revised hours will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday, while work will close at 12:00 p.m. on Fridays.
“Sequel to this development, workers across the state are expected to be at their places of work up to 2:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 12:00 p.m. on Friday,” she added.
She noted that normal working hours would resume immediately after the conclusion of Ramadan.
Ramadan, one of the five pillars of Islam, is observed worldwide as a period dedicated to fasting, prayer, reflection and sp
iritual renewal.
