Nigeria – President Tinubu Submits Names of NWDC Governing Board Members to Senate for Confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted the list of nominees for the inaugural Governing Board of the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation.
Recall that President Tinubu recently assent to the Northwest Development Commission Bill, which was signed into law on July 24, 2024, marking a significant step towards the full establishment of the Commission.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday.
The list includes Ambassador Haruna Ginsau from Jigawa State, who has been nominated as Chairman of the NWDC Governing Board. Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji from Kano State was nominated as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the Commission.
Other nominees for the NWDC board include Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe (Sokoto), Hon. Aminu Suleiman (Kebbi), Sen. Tijani Yahaya Kaura (Zamfara), Hon. Abdulkadir S. Usman (Kaduna), Hon. Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil (Kano), Shamsu Sule (Katsina) and Nasidi Ali (Jigawa).
According to Onanuga, the nominees, drawn from various states within the Northwest region, are expected to bring their vast expertise and experience to the board as they steer the Commission towards achieving its mandate of fostering sustainable development in the region.
He disclosed that the NWDC is set to play a pivotal role in driving economic empowerment, infrastructure development, and social progress across the Northwest. The Commission’s establishment is seen as a timely intervention to address the developmental challenges facing the region.
He concluded that the President Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the NWDC in its mission to enhance the quality of life and economic opportunities for the people of the Northwest.
