By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, following allegations levelled against the minister.
Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, tendered his resignation on Tuesday in a letter addressed to the President, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation.
In his letter, the outgoing minister stated that he had become a target of blackmail from political opponents and chose to step aside in order not to allow distractions to affect the administration’s focus.
President Tinubu, in accepting his resignation, commended Nnaji for his contributions to national development during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The development was made known in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Tuesday.
Nnaji’s exit marks the latest change in the President’s cabinet, coming amid allegations of certificates forgery in recent times.
