NIGERIA: Presidency Debunks Rumors Of Gbajabiamila’s Replacement As Chief Of Staff
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Presidency has categorically dismissed as false and mischievous a viral social media claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with Principal Private Secretary Hakeem Muri-Okunola.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the rumor as a complete fabrication aimed at sowing disharmony within the government.
He reaffirmed that Gbajabiamila remains firmly in his position as Chief of Staff, while Muri-Okunola continues in his role as Principal Private Secretary, with no changes to either appointment.
The clarification comes amid widespread circulation of the unfounded story on various online platforms, prompting the Presidency to urge Nigerians to disregard it entirely. Onanuga emphasised the need for media outlets and individuals to verify information thoroughly before publication or sharing, warning against the spread of fake news that undermines public trust.
The statement underscores the administration’s stance against misinformation, assuring the public of stability in key presidential appointments as the government continues its work.
No further details on the origin of the rumor were provided, but the swift rebuttal highlights ongoing efforts to counter deliberate distortions in the information space.
