The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to commemorate 70 years of women in policing, celebrating seven decades of courage, resilience, and service since the first set of policewomen were enlisted in 1955.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the celebration will be held from December 3 to 4, 2025, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. The event will bring together serving and retired female officers to honour their contributions to the Force and the nation.
The Inspector-General commended the invaluable role of women officers in enhancing operational effectiveness and improving the public image of the Police. He noted that their dedication, empathy, and professionalism have become a strong pillar of modern policing in Nigeria.
“Over the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves in various capacities from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership. Through integrity and compassion, they have redefined policing with purpose,” the statement read in part.
Activities marking the anniversary will include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme.
The IGP reaffirmed his commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in the Force.
The Nigeria Police also expressed appreciation to all female officers, past and present, for their service, courage, and professionalism, describing them as a source of pride and inspiration to the institution and the nation.
