By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a notorious Chinese gang leader, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China in a landmark operation executed through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who signed the release on Sunday, said the operation was carried out in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria.
He described the move as a demonstration of the Force’s commitment to tackling transnational organized crime.
Dai Qisheng, wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for leading violent organized crimes, fled his country in 2024 after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County.
He was tracked, placed under surveillance, and apprehended by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja in the Federal Capital Territory on 8 August 2025.
The fugitive was repatriated to Beijing on 15 August 2025 under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, said the successful operation was a clear message to criminals worldwide that Nigeria would not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.
He stressed that the Force would continue to strengthen international partnerships through intelligence sharing and operational collaboration to combat global crime networks.
