NIGERIA: Police Deny Claims Of Muhuyi Magaji’s Arrest, Clarify Invitation For Investigation

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed claims of the arrest of Mr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
The clarification was made in a statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday.
According to the release, Mr. Magaji was not arrested but was invited by the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit in connection with a petition filed against him on January 17, 2025.
The statement emphasised that the invitation was part of standard investigative procedures and urged the chairman to cooperate with the ongoing investigation rather than resort to public sensationalism.
“Given his role as a public servant and a respected individual within society, it is expected of Mr. Muhuyi to cooperate with the police to ensure a proper investigation is carried out, rather than seeking to create media attention,” the statement read.
The police further debunked any suggestions of an arrest as “unfounded and misleading,” calling on the public and the media to refrain from spreading misinformation that could incite unnecessary alarm.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to the rule of law and ensuring due process in all its investigations, urging the public to allow the matter to proceed without undue speculation.
