NIGERIA: Police Debunk False Claim Of CAN Chairman’s Beheading In Adamawa
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Adamawa State Police Command has, dismissed as false and inciting a viral social media post alleging that the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state was beheaded by suspected Fulani terrorists.
The clarification was contained in a statement made available to African Culture TV by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on Saturday morning.
According to the police, the report, which originated from a Facebook page operated by one “Lionman Lioni,” is entirely fabricated and designed to cause panic, tension, and religious discord among residents of the state.
“There is no such incident recorded anywhere in Adamawa State. The report is purely the handiwork of mischief-makers aimed at creating panic, tension, and religious disaffection among peace-loving residents,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, urged members of the public to disregard the claim and to always verify information from credible sources before sharing it.
Nguroje further revealed that an investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those behind the false publication.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, unity, and religious harmony across Adamawa State while cautioning against the spread of fake and inflammatory reports capable of inciting unrest.
