The Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its fight against crime, arresting individuals involved in arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities.
The arrests were made by tactical teams, including the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS).
In a statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the police disclosed that on December 23, 2024, operatives of FID-STS intercepted a 30-year-old woman, Hauwa Sani, along the Keffi/Abuja Expressway.
She was found in possession of 124 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a 5-litre container of palm oil.
However, upon interrogation, she confessed that one Nasiru of Daura had instructed her to deliver the ammunition to Katsina State.
Further investigations led to additional arrests and recoveries. On February 1, 2025, operatives acting on intelligence apprehended three suspects: Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 50; Joseph Matthew, 27; and Solomon Bala, 25, all residents of Potiskum, Yobe State.
They were caught transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs allegedly meant for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers in Yobe State and neighboring countries.
In another operation on February 3, 2025, police operatives arrested three men: Yusuf Dantani, 24; Usman Labaran, 32; and Musa Mohammed, 23 who were found with 10 AK-47 rifles.
The suspects confessed to being arms dealers and revealed that they had received ₦3,980,000 for their last batch of weapons.
The police reiterated their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring national security.
The statement urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
