NIGERIA: Peter Obi Debunks Doctored Photos Linking Him To Trump, MC Oluomo
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed as fake a series of images making the rounds on social media that purportedly show him in meetings with high-profile figures, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Lagos transport union leader, MC Oluomo.
In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Wednesday, Obi described the photos and the stories attached to them as “fake and doctored,” stressing that he has not had such meetings.
He warned that the circulation of such fabrications underscores the dangers of fake news and disinformation in Nigeria’s public space.
“These fabrications are deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public,” Obi said, urging Nigerians and the international community to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing.
He further clarified that if he were to hold such meetings, he would personally make them public, as his brand of politics is not built on “seeking praise or cheap publicity” but on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
“My politics is strictly focused on tackling insecurity, strengthening the rule of law, improving education and healthcare, and lifting millions out of poverty,” Obi affirmed, adding that his vision remains centered on building “a new Nigeria founded on integrity, accountability, and transparency.”
Obi, who has been vocal about governance reforms and the plight of Nigerians, concluded by reiterating his commitment to the cause of national renewal, signing off with his signature message: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”
