The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Friday unveiled a golden statue in honor of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
The ceremony, which attracted dignitaries from across the country, was held on the university grounds. The Ooni also inaugurated several other projects in honor of Mrs Tinubu, including a 2.7km road named “Senator Oluremi Tinubu Way” and a magnificent pavilion.
These monuments, all located within OAU, were named in recognition of her contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity.
In his speech, the Ooni praised the First Lady’s exemplary leadership and tireless advocacy for the advancement of women and education in Nigeria.
“A golden statue is erected to immortalize her virtuous personality and to showcase the strength of a teacher, mother, and wife at the very heart of Obafemi Awolowo University,” the Ooni said. He added that the new hostel and pavilion, the largest in the history of OAU, symbolizes Mrs Tinubu’s efforts to create spaces for learning and development.
