Nigeria – Ogun State Announces New Age Limit To Contest For Local Government Elections
By Utebor Paul, Nigeria
Following the review of the laws governing the conduct of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), the commission has made changes to the age limit for candidates in the upcoming local government election.
This was made known by Babatunde Osibodu, the Chairman of the Commission, in a statement on Friday in Abeokuta.
According to him, the age limit, which was changed from age 30 to 25 years, was to bring the guidelines in line with sections 7 (4) and 106 of the Nigerian Constitution.
As a result of this development, the commission also announced the extension of each party’s primaries by one week, and the collection of personal data forms (CF 001 and CF 002) by each political party was also extended to September 20.
The commission disclosed that elections for chairmanship and councillorship positions in local government areas in Ogun will be held on November 16.
Additionally, Babatunde notified all political parties of a meeting scheduled for Monday, which will take place at the commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
