NIGERIA: Obiano Quashes Death Rumour, Declares Himself ‘Alive And Hearty’
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano has personally dismissed a viral rumour claiming he was dead or gravely ill, reassuring residents and supporters that he is “alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health” by the special grace of God.
The ex-governor broke his silence in a widely circulated statement posted on his verified social media handles on Thursday evening, branding the falsehood “unfortunate mischief” and urging the public to disregard it completely.
Obiano, who signed off as “Akpokuedike” in the message dated 14 November 2025, thanked the flood of callers, texters, and well-wishers whose prayers and concern touched him deeply.
He described their love and goodwill as “more than words can express” while expressing disappointment that certain individuals still derive joy from peddling unverified claims for reasons yet unknown.
The rumour, which began circulating on WhatsApp groups and Facebook pages early Thursday, had triggered panic across Anambra and beyond, with some posts falsely alleging the former governor had collapsed or passed away. By mid-morning, family members and aides were already fielding anxious inquiries, prompting Obiano to issue the rebuttal less than twelve hours after the hoax surfaced.
In his closing, Obiano reaffirmed his focus and gratitude, signing off with “Daalu nu” and a blessing for all wh
