NIGERIA: Obasa Faults Impeachments, Denies Corruption Allegations

By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reaffirmed that he remains the rightful speaker of the assembly based on constitutional provisions.
Obasa made this declaration on Saturday in Ikeja GRA during a welcome event organised in his honor by supporters from Agege, Alimosho, and Kosofe local government areas.
He said: “I’m not disturbed, I am not afraid.”
Obasa also denied the allegations of corruption brought against him by the lawmakers during his removal, describing the alleged fraud as “impossible.”
Recall that Africa Culture TV reported that, Obasa was impeached from his position by members of the House over allegations of gross misconduct and financial mismanagement.
In response to his removal, Obasa contended that the procedure of his impeachment was not in line with constitutional requirements.
However, he expressed his willingness to accept the removal if it is carried out by the constitution.
