Nigeria – Nollywood Actress, Monalisa Stephen, Opens Up About Domestic Abuse

In a candid interview with Saturday Beats, Nollywood actress Monalisa Stephen has revealed her painful experience with domestic abuse, an ordeal she never imagined could happen to her.
Reflecting on the harrowing situation, the actress admitted that she had never considered herself vulnerable to such mistreatment, particularly because of her size.
“I used to think, ‘I’m a big woman, why would anyone want to hurt me?’ But abuse isn’t about your size. Anyone can be a victim, whether you’re large or not.”
Recalling the first instance of violence, Mona Lisa explained how the abuse caught her completely off guard.
“When I got that first slap, I was in shock. It came out of nowhere and over something so insignificant. I was dazed,” she said, recounting the painful experience that left her reeling.
Despite recognizing that her abuser was not on her level, the actress expressed regret over lowering her standards to date him.
“This person continued to beat and humiliate me. When I confronted him, asking why he was doing this, he told me his friend advised him that women like me needed to be ‘bent’ to be dominated. That completely changed how I saw some men,” she revealed
