NIGERIA: NOA Urges Nigerians To Stay Vigilant As Yuletide Approaches

The National Orientation Agency has called on all Nigerians across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to take adequate safety precautions and be extra vigilant as the Christmas and New Year season approaches.
This appeal was on Monday made by the Director General of the organisation, Lanre Issa-Onilu, in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, while briefing press men about several awareness campaigns the agency is currently running across the country.
Represented by the NOA’S Director of Finance and Accounts, Sule Haruna, Issa-Onilue outlined the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public awareness across the country while giving a speech themed, “Promoting Awareness, Ethical Values, and National Development.”,the agency’s National Headquarters.
In his speech, the Director-General emphasized that collaboration between the public and the Federal Government is critical to tackling the nation’s security challenges.
He further highlighted that, in addition to security awareness campaigns, the agency is also working on initiatives aimed at discouraging the Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome, promoting human rights, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, and educating the public on the Tax Reforms Bill, among others.
“Security remains a top priority for the government as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The government has been strengthening the security architecture, increasing funding for security agencies, and expanding policing initiatives to improve collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies”, he added
Issa-Onilu reiterated that the agency is urging Nigerians to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, stating that personal security begins with individual awareness and action.
