A tragic road accident claimed the lives of nine people on Sunday morning, along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State, as Muslims celebrate Eid festival.
The Katsina Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the incident, describing it as a “lone accident” involving a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.
Ma’aji stated: “Nine passengers died on the spot, while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.”
It was also gathered that the preliminary investigations attributed the accident to excessive speeding and loss of control.
The FRSC commander urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during festive periods, warning against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving.
He further emphasized that despite efforts by the state government to enhance road infrastructure, reckless driving remains a leading cause of fatal accidents in the region.
