NIGERIA: Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry Cautions Travellers About Safety In Australia

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has issued a stern warning advising Nigerian citizens planning to travel to Australia to remain cautious of the security issues in certain cities.
In a press statement released to the public on the Ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the Acting Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the warning is due to the reported cases of discrimination, harassment, and verbal abuse targeted at foreigners.
He said: “The unfortunate recent surge in antisemitic and Islamophobic hate crimes in Australia has increased the risk of violence, hence the need for caution.”
Kimiebi further noted that Nigerians should be mindful and take caution to ensure their safety and comfort.
“Nigerians are therefore advised to be mindful of the prevailing cultural and social dynamics to ensure their safety and comfort. To this end, extra vigilance and necessary precautions are strongly recommended.” He said
The Ministry also provided contact details for Nigerian travelers and residents in Australia to report any incidents of racism or harassment.
