Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has disclosed that he has never performed on stage without being under the influence of alcohol.
The Soweto hitmaker made this revelation during an interview on the Behind The Prestige podcast, which trended widely on Friday.
Victony admitted that alcohol was a key part of his performance routine but revealed that he is now making deliberate efforts to live a healthier lifestyle.
He stated he has abstained from smoking for some time and is working towards quitting alcohol altogether.
He described the challenge ahead, as he noted: “I’m trying to do this tour sober and it’s a big challenge. For the longest time, I have never been on stage without drinking but I’m trying to see my fans with my eyes, connect with them truly.”
Victony added, “Staying fit is a new habit. I started two months ago, and it’s been good.”
The singer rose to prominence after his collaboration with Mayorkun on the hit single Holy Father. In April 2021, Victony was involved in a serious car accident that claimed one life and injured three others. Reflecting on the incident in a 2023 interview, he described it as a “blessing in disguise” that profoundly changed his perspective on life.
