The National Assembly has postponed its resumption from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Both the Senate and House of Representatives had adjourned plenary on July 24 to observe their annual two-month vacation, with an earlier plan to reconvene on September 23.
However, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, in a statement issued on Tuesday morning, announced the new date.
The statement, titled “Reschedule of Resumption Date of Plenary Activities in the National Assembly”, read: “I am directed by the presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the resumption date of the National Assembly earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, is postponed to Tuesday, 7th October 2025.”
It further stated; “However, committee activities continue. All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly. Any inconvenience caused by this rescheduling is deeply regretted.”
The postponement means plenary sessions in both Chambers will remain on hold until October, though standing committees and other legislative assignments will continue in the interim.
No official reason was given for the shift in date beyond scheduling adjustments by the leadership.
The National Assembly traditionally proceeds on recess in July and reconvenes in September, but this year’s break has been extended by two additional weeks.
