NIGERIA: Natasha Akpoti Fires Satirical Shot At Senate President Akpabio In Scathing “Apology”

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The simmering tensions within Nigeria’s Senate spilled into the public domain on Sunday after Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan issued a biting, satirical “apology” to Senate President Godswill Akpabio,
She accused him of fostering a culture of entitlement and coercion within the legislature.
In a Facebook post titled “Satirical Apology Letter,” Senator Akpoti Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, offered what she described as a “deeply sarcastic” and “theatrical” apology for maintaining her dignity and resisting alleged pressures to compromise her principles for political favors.
The letter, laced with cutting wit, accused the Senate President of valuing “compliance” over competence and implied that legislative rewards under his leadership were contingent not on merit but on personal subservience.
“How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your… ‘requests’ was not merely a personal choice, but a constitutional violation of the unwritten laws of certain men’s entitlement,” Akpoti Uduaghan wrote, without detailing the exact nature of the “requests.”
In one of the most searing lines of her post, she wrote:
“Please find it in your magnanimous heart somewhere buried deep beneath layers of entitlement, to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections.”
Political observers say the post is the clearest and most public indication yet of a rift between Akpoti Uduaghan and Senate leadership, hinting at deeper battles over integrity, gender dynamics, and internal power struggles within Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.
Efforts to get a response from Senate President Akpabio’s office on Sunday evening were unsuccessful. As of press time, no official rebuttal had been issued.
This is not the first time Akpoti Uduaghan has publicly challenged the establishment. Since assuming office, she has styled herself as an independent-minded legislator, often calling out what she describes as entrenched practices of political patronage and gender discrimination.
While it remains to be seen whether the Senate leadership will formally respond or seek to discipline the outspoken senator, Akpoti Uduaghan ended her letter on a defiant note, signing off: “Unafraid, Unbought, and Unbroken.”
