NIGERIA: NAPTIP Declares Speed Darlington Wanted Over Alleged Rape, Cyberbullying
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially listed entertainer Darlington Okoye, also known as Speed Darlington, as wanted.
The agency is investigating allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking, and has urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
Recall that African Culture TV reported that Speed Darlington admitted to having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl in a viral Instagram Live recording in late May. The disturbing claim prompted immediate action from NAPTIP and human rights advocates.
Lagos State’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency raised the alarm, leading to a formal summon issued by NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team on May 29.
The agency directed Speed Darlington to present himself at its Abuja headquarters on May 30 but noted that he failed to appear. NAPTIP warned that legal actions, including prosecution or arrest, could follow if he continues to ignore the summons.
In response, Speed Darlington released a follow-up video claiming his statements were a promotional stunt aimed at boosting interest in a new song. He later apologised, stating that controversy helps him gain attention.
Despite his attempts to downplay the remarks, NAPTIP has escalated the situation. The agency is now pursuing him officially and urging the public to assist in the investigation.
This incident adds to Speed Darlington’s history of controversy. He has previously been involved in public feuds with other celebrities, including defamation cases and allegations of cyberbullying.
However, these new allegations, amplified by his alleged own admission—have significantly intensified scrutiny from law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
The ongoing investigation underscores growing concerns over crimes involving minors, online abuse, and the exploitation of social media platforms by celebrities.
