Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has declared that the alleged hacking of N180 million from his NGO’s account was a deliberate hoax.
The social critic made this known in a video posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, where he taunted both Nigerian media outlets and social media users who amplified the claim without verification.
VDM explained that his intention was to expose what he described as the gullibility of Nigerian media and social media users.
According to him, the fabricated story served as proof of his assertion that “80 percent of Nigerians on social media are stupid.
“I wanted to see how dumb people can be,” VDM said, mockingly.
“The media ran with the story without even confirming it. My money is safe with Zenith Bank, and they’re doing a good job,” he added.
The activist expressed outrage at those who insulted him and his mother during the controversy, with some accusing her of being complicit in the alleged theft.
Feigning tears in his video, VDM warned that his critics would face consequences for dragging his family into the matter.
“Those who called my mother a thief and insulted me will learn the hard way,” he said, hinting at potential legal or social actions against his detractors.
He also criticised media practitioners for their failure to uphold journalistic ethics, particularly fact-checking, before publishing sensational stories.
“It’s disappointing to see how quickly the media spreads unverified news. This should serve as a wake-up call,” VDM added.
