NIGERIA: Mr. Macaroni Criticises Nigerian Politicians Over Disrespect To Citizens, Calls Out FCT Minister

Popular Nigerian comedian and social advocate, Adebowale “Debo” Adedayo, also known as Mr. Macaroni, has expressed his frustration over the lack of respect displayed by Nigerian politicians towards citizens, following an incident involving FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement shared on X, Mr. Macaroni condemned the minister’s alleged conduct during an exchange with some citizens, in which Wike reportedly asked, “Are you stupid, is it because I came down to talk to you?”
Describing the comments as a show of “arrogance,” Mr. Macaroni reminded politicians that they are civil servants accountable to the public, noting that their salaries are funded by taxpayers.
He remarked, “Whatever privileges your office allows you is as a function of your service to the people! You work for the people and not the other way round. Arrogance has no place in public office!”
Macaroni further addressed Wike directly, emphasising that public office is a responsibility, not a favour, urging him to address citizens with “utmost humility and respect.” He argued that politicians who fail to serve with dignity should consider resigning, stating, “Resign and go lord over your family members.”
Macaroni also referenced recent allegations of assault involving Rep. Alex Ikwechegh, suggesting a recurring pattern among Nigerian politicians of disregarding citizens. He attributed this to a lack of accountability and low standards in public office, lamenting, “We have public servants moving around like gods. The FCT Minister addressing citizens like he is doing Nigerians a favour.”
Macaroni concluded by encouraging citizens to hold politicians accountable, reminding them that they are “serving the people, not their followers.”
