NIGERIA: Lawyer Petitions EFCC, ICPC Over Alleged Procurement Fraud In BPP
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Barrister Fatai Amokeoja, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to immediately investigate alleged procurement fraud and abuse of office at the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).
Copies of the petition, submitted on Monday and obtained by journalists on Tuesday, were also forwarded to the Presidency and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Barrister Amokeoja accused the leadership of the BPP, under Director-General Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, of corruption, influence-peddling, and deliberate violation of procurement laws, allegedly involving the supply of bulletproof vehicles to compromise the agency.
He claimed a serving minister used the vehicles to induce the BPP to bypass due process, warning that such actions could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national progress.
The petitioner demanded full disclosure by the FCT Administration of all documents relating to the procurement and allocation of a bulletproof Toyota Land Cruiser, including budget approvals, tender processes, due-process certificates, payment records, and allocation registers; Investigation by the EFCC into possible financial impropriety, unlawful enrichment, and diversion of public funds and Probe by the ICPC into violations of Public Service Rules and abuse of power.
He also demanded Compulsory asset declaration by the BPP DG and verification by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), with the declaration date made public.
Amokeoja stressed that the allegations are “weighty, corroborated by reported direct statements from the DG, and highly verifiable,” urging swift action to restore public trust in anti-corruption reforms.
Neither the BPP, the named minister, nor the anti-graft agencies have issued official responses to the petition as of the time of filing this report.
