The Lagos State Government has presented compensation cheques to 79 residents of Oworonshoki whose properties were affected by the state’s ongoing urban regeneration project.

The event, which took place at the Palace of the Oloworo Kingdom, was coordinated by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA) under the Office of Urban Development (OUD).
Speaking during the ceremony, the General Manager of LASURA, Tpl. Animashaun Oladimeji Saheed, said the government had earlier notified the affected residents and conducted an enumeration exercise to determine the level of compensation due to each person.
Saheed said: “This presentation is a fulfilment of the government’s commitment to ensure that no one is unfairly treated in the process of urban renewa. We are not just demolishing; we are rebuilding and compensating to make Lagos better for everyone.”
He added that the compensation reflected the government’s promise to balance infrastructural growth with fairness and community engagement.
“We will continue to engage stakeholders and residents to ensure that the rights of all citizens are protected while we implement our development agenda,” he assured.
Some of the beneficiaries, who received their cheques with excitement, described the gesture as a welcome relief after weeks of uncertainty.
They thanked the government for fulfilling its promise and pledged their cooperation in the state’s urban renewal efforts.
Recall Africa Culture TV reported that some communities in Oworonshoki were demolished on Sept. 6, 2025, prompting a protest and the temporary blockage of the Third Mainland Bridge.
