By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Police Command says it will commence full enforcement of laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles from Thursday, October 2, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command explained that the exercise is to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities, and ensure compliance with road safety laws.
According to the statement, vehicle owners who have yet to register were advised.
The statement reads: ” Vehicle owners are strongly advised to obtain the approved Tinted Glass Permit at possap.gov.ng, and those who do not wish to apply are advised to remove the tints or replace factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as required by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 2004.”
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, warned officers to carry out the diligently.
He noted: “Officers are encouraged to carry out the enforcement with the highest level of professionalism, free from harassment or extortion of motorists.”
He added that any officer found guilty of misconduct would be sanctioned, and their supervising officer held “vicariously liable.”
While reassuring residents, the Command emphasised: “This exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to guarantee everyone’s security.”
For complaints of unprofessional conduct, the public has been urged to reach the Lagos Police Command Complaint Response Unit via dedicated hotlines and social media handles.
The Command assured residents of Lagos that it remains committed to professionalism, fairness, and respect for citizens’ rights as the exercise begins.
