The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state ahead of the Local Government Elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command disclosed that movement will be restricted from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Election Day, covering all roads and waterways within the state’s jurisdiction.
The restriction is part of efforts to ensure a secure, free, and credible electoral process, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The police further stated several directives that all armed escorts and security details are prohibited from accompanying their principals or political actors and the use of sirens and covered number plates is banned during the election period.
It also stated that no state-owned or quasi-security agency is authorised to participate in election security operations. Only the Nigeria Police Force and other approved federal security agencies will be on duty.
The statement also stated some exceptions: ” Exempted from the movement restriction are: Emergency responders and medical personnel on duty, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) accredited officials, accredited election observers, and certified media practitioners covering the election. All exempt individuals must wear their official LASIEC identification tags throughout the election process.”
The Command issued a stern warning to miscreants, political thugs, and hoodlums to stay away from polling units, collation centres, and all locations designated for electoral activities.
The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The Command provided the following emergency contact numbers: 08063299264
08065154338.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order during the elections and called on all residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies for a peaceful electoral exercise.
