NIGERIA: Lagos Police Adjust Timing of Movement Restrictions for July 12 LG Elections
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Police Command has announced a revision to the timing of vehicular and waterways movement restrictions initially scheduled for the upcoming Local Government Elections on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Command revealed that the restriction will now take effect from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, rather than the previously announced 3:00 AM start time.
This adjustment, according to the police, is aimed at reducing inconveniences for residents with urgent medical needs and those with long-planned international travel arrangements.
The elections will take place across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, emphasized the Command’s commitment to a safe, secure, and peaceful electoral process. He urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement personnel and respect the new timing to ensure smooth election conduct.
Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity. The Command provided emergency contact numbers for this purpose: 08063299264 and 08065154338.
The announcement was signed by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
