NIGERIA: Lagos, Oyo, Ogun Declare August 20 Work-Free Day for Isese Festival

Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun states have declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday in honour of this year’s Isese Festival.
In Lagos, a circular signed by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, announced Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s approval of the holiday, noting it reaffirms government’s commitment to promoting indigenous culture and supporting traditional institutions.
“In reaffirming the commitment of the State Government towards promoting our indigenous culture, tradition and preserving our heritage, while providing necessary support for traditional Institutions in the State, Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, 20th August, 2025 as Work-Free Day for Lagos State Public Servants in commemoration of the Day.”
The Oyo State’s Secretary to the Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, also confirmed Governor Seyi Makinde’s approval of the day, urging citizens to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the state and across Nigeria.
The Ogun State Government also joined, with a statement from the office of Governor Dapo Abiodun declaring the work-free day for workers in the state.
Isese Day, observed annually by adherents of traditional religion, is set aside to honour Yoruba culture, spirituality, and heritage. Normal activities are expected to resume on Thursd
