NIGERIA: Lagos House of Assembly Impeaches Speaker

The members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached its Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa over multiple allegations of fraud.

The impeachment occured on Monday during the house’s plenary session.

The Clerk of the House, Mr Olalekan Onafeko, was also suspended indefinitely, while the Chief Whip, Mr Mojeed Fatai, was elected the new Deputy Speaker.

As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of the speaker’s removal is yet to be known.

However, the house has swon in a new speaker, who was previously the Deputy Speaker of the house, Mojisola Meranda .Full details later.
