By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has launched a free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme in partnership with the Ishk Tolaram Foundation to empower young residents with employable skills.
The initiative, tagged “Get Skilled, Earn Money,” is designed to provide participants with hands-on experience that enhances self-reliance and improves access to decent work opportunities across the state.
According to the Ministry, the six-month programme consists of two phases, a three-month intensive vocational training period and a subsequent three-month paid internship that exposes participants to real work environments and industry practices.
Targeted at unemployed youths between the ages of 18 and 35, the scheme is open to applicants who possess a Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) ID and have attained at least a secondary school education.
Training will cover several high-demand vocational areas, including Fashion Design, Solar Installation, Masonry and Tiling, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Carpentry and Furniture Making, as well as Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
To ensure easy access for participants across the state, training centres have been strategically located in Ikeja, Oko-Oba, Oshodi, Oworonshoki, Ogba, and Ojodu.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, the government reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment and economic growth through skills acquisition.
The statement reads; “This programme underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision to build a productive, self-reliant, and innovative youth population in line with the #AGreaterLagosRising agenda.”
Interested applicants are encouraged to register online via bit.ly/Tvettraining or by scanning the QR code on the programme’s official flyer. Registration is free.
