The Kano State Government has pledged to take decisive action following the release of a damning report on the #EndBadGovernance protest that rocked the state on August 1, 2024.
According to findings from the Committee of Inquiry, at least 10 people were killed, seven others sustained critical injuries, and public and private properties worth over ₦11 billion were destroyed during the violent demonstration.
Governor Kabir Yusuf made this commitment on Tuesday while receiving the report from the committee’s chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (retd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at Government House.
The governor assured that his administration would fully implement the report’s recommendations and issue a white paper to identify and hold accountable those responsible for funding and inciting the unrest.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, confirmed Yusuf’s stance, emphasizing that the government had allowed the committee to operate independently over the six-month investigation.
“I have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members. They were selected based on merit, and I am optimistic that they have done their job without bias,” the governor stated.
He further stressed that his administration would take appropriate measures to deter future violence, ensuring that those who incite destruction are held accountable.
Presenting the report, Justice Wada disclosed that the committee had visited all affected areas, engaged stakeholders, and compiled a comprehensive account of the damages.
The findings confirmed the widespread destruction that paralyzed several parts of Kano, leaving families grieving and businesses ruined.
“The governor’s commitment to implementing the report’s recommendations signals a decisive step toward accountability and justice in Kano State,” the report concluded.
