NIGERIA: Kaduna Governor Confirms Release of 183 Abducted Worshippers

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has confirmed the release of all 183 worshippers abducted from three churches in Kurmin Wali community, Kaduna State, following a January 18 attack.
The governor disclosed this while receiving the rescued victims at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, describing their return as a relief to the state after weeks of anxiety and uncertainty.
According to Governor Sani, 11 of the worshippers escaped during the attack, while the remaining victims were later reunited with their families through a combination of security-led rescue operations and self-escape efforts.
The governor said: “This was an unfortunate and unexpected incident, but we are grateful that all those abducted have now regained their freedom.”
He noted that security arrangements across Kaduna State have been strengthened to prevent a recurrence, adding that the safety of residents remains a top priority of his administration.
Governor Sani commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support during the rescue efforts and acknowledged the role of security agencies, including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, and other operatives involved in the operation.
“The collaboration and commitment of our security agencies made this outcome possible,”
he stated.
Beyond security measures, the governor announced development plans for Kurmin Wali community, including the construction of an access road, a hospital, and a skills acquisition centre to support residents and improve living conditions.
He further revealed that the President has approved the establishment of a military base in the area to enhance security and deter future attacks.
Governor Sani also warned against politicising insecurity, stressing that his administration remains focused on protecting lives, property, and the sanctity of human life
across Kaduna State.
