Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, popularly known as the “Queen Mother,” has disclosed that she was recently questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the illegal spraying of currency during her daughter’s wedding.
Ojo, who was in the United Kingdom at the time of the EFCC’s invitation, revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday, that she honoured the anti-corruption agency’s request and appeared before them on Monday upon her return to Nigeria.
The actress explained that she was quizzed about various aspects of her personal and professional life, including her career and businesses.
However, the primary subject of the interrogation was the video footage of her daughter’s wedding, which had surfaced on social media.
The video showed guests spraying large amounts of Naira and foreign currencies during the ceremony.
She wrote; “I recently had an experience with the EFCC in Nigeria after receiving an invitation letter while I was in the UK. Upon my return, I visited the EFCC on the 5th day of May 2025, where I was asked several questions relating to my personal bio data, career, work experience, and companies, amongst others.”
The actress stated that she was surprised when she learned that spraying foreign currencies, including Dollars, is also prohibited by law in Nigeria.
Ojo explained that she had previously believed that only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence.
“The EFCC officials showed me videos from my daughter’s wedding, where guests, including friends and colleagues, were spraying Naira and foreign currencies. I was asked if I knew this was illegal, and I explained that I thought only abuse or mutilation of the Naira was an offence,” Ojo said in her post.
She went on to state that the EFCC officials clarified that spraying any currency, whether Naira or foreign currencies like the Dollar, was prohibited under Nigerian law, especially when it is done in public or on individuals.
Following the interrogation, Ojo urged Nigerians to avoid engaging in currency spraying, advising that such acts could result in legal consequences with the EFCC.
“I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria to avoid issues with the EFCC,” she said.
Recall that Africa Culture TV reported the wedding of Ojo’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo, who got married to a Tanzanian singer, Juma Jux, in a lavish ceremony attended by many Nollywood stars and other public figures.
The event had garnered significant media attention, and the video of the currency spraying quickly went viral.
