Nigeria Is A “Disgraced” Nation under This Administration’s Leadership, Weakening Opposition Instead Of Fighting Insecurity – Peter Obi
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared that Nigeria has sadly earned the label “now disgraced nation” recently used by United States President Donald Trump, pointing to the spate of kidnappings, the killing of a brigadier general and other soldiers, and the latest terror attack in Kwara State as evidence of deepening national shame.
In a strongly worded statement released Tuesday, Obi said the country is sliding into chaos while those in power appear more focused on orchestrating crises inside opposition parties than uniting Nigerians against insecurity.
He cited the abduction of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi State, the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other officers in Borno, and fresh attacks in Kwara to argue that the nation is bleeding at a time it should be rallying together.
Instead, he accused the current administration of deliberately weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other political platforms.
Obi recalled that the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua once directed the then INEC Chairman, Professor Maurice Iwu, to protect the stability of every political party because a healthy multi-party system is vital for democracy.
He contrasted that approach with what he described as today’s deliberate fragmentation of opposition parties.
The former Anambra governor insisted that in mature democracies, opposition is respected, elections reflect the people’s will, and governance carries everyone along for pea
ce and progress.
