NIGERIA; IPOB Condemns Sheikh Gumi’s Call To Arm Igbo Youths, Accuses FG Of Genocidal Agenda

By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly criticized the Federal Government for failing to sanction Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his recent call for the recruitment and arming of Igbo youths to combat IPOB activities in the South-East.
In a statement on Friday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, described Gumi’s remarks as “genocidal” and accused the cleric of echoing the Federal Government’s alleged agenda to destabilize the region.
“The great family and movement of IPOB worldwide wish to bring the attention of the international community over the new genocidal plans of the Federal Government against the Biafran nation,” the statement read.
Powerful alleged that the insecurity plaguing the South-East is “state-sponsored” and that Gumi’s statements confirm IPOB’s belief that the government is actively working against the movement.
He warned that such rhetoric could inflame tensions and lead to further violence in the region.
IPOB further called on international bodies, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, the African Union, and foreign embassies in Nigeria, to take note of what it described as a “coordinated effort to suppress the Biafran struggle.”
The Federal Government has yet to officially respond to IPOB’s accusations, and Sheikh Gumi has not made any further comments on the matter.
