NIGERIA: Interior Ministry Orders Full Transition To Electronic Correspondence From December 1, 2025
By Ameenat Hamzat, Lagos, Nigeria
The Ministry of Interior has directed that all official correspondence must be conducted electronically beginning December 1, 2025, marking a major step in the Federal Government’s digitalisation agenda.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, in alignment with the Digitalisation Reform Pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2025).
According to the Ministry, physical letters and manual submissions will no longer be accepted under the new policy.
In the statement, the Ministry said the transition was designed to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with federal directives.
The statement reads: “Effective 1st December 2025, the Ministry will no longer accept manual submission of letters, mails, or any form of physical correspondence. All official documents and requests must be submitted electronically through the Ministry’s approved digital platforms.”
The Permanent Secretary added that the electronic platforms designated for communication include the Interior Correspondence Portal at interas.interior.gov.ng and the Ministry’s official website, interior.gov.ng, where submissions can be made after registration.
She noted that the adoption of digital channels supports the Federal Government’s commitment to enhanced service delivery, transparency, and the full digitalisation of public service operations.
The statement further stated: “The Ministry urges all MDAs, organisations, partners, and members of the public to comply fully with this directive to ensure smooth and efficient processing of all communications.”
The new policy is expected to streamline administrative processes and reduce delays associated with the manual handling of documents across government institutions.
