NIGERIA: INEC Introduces AI Virtual Assistant For Anambra Governorship Election
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled an Artificial Intelligence-powered virtual assistant designed to improve staff training and operational efficiency ahead of the Anambra governorship election slated for November 8, 2025.
The new digital tool, called the INEC Training Virtual Assistant or “INECTrainingBot”, was introduced on Friday as part of the commission’s effort to leverage technology in strengthening election management processes.
According to a statement posted on INEC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the virtual assistant, available on Telegram, offers 24-hour access to training materials, interactive lessons, and on-demand learning modules.
It allows electoral officers to learn flexibly, from any location, and at their own pace.
“In preparation for the #AnambraDecides2025 election, INEC is leveraging technology to enhance the capacity of its personnel and stakeholders. This tool provides flexible, on-demand access to essential election training, ensuring our team can learn smarter and be fully equipped for their critical roles,” the statement read.
The INECTrainingBot features 24/7 accessibility, a user-friendly interface, and on-the-go learning options for staff and ad-hoc officers.
In a related development, the commission announced that distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for voters who took part in the recent Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Anambra will hold from October 22 to 26.
INEC also revealed plans to conduct a mock accreditation exercise on Saturday, October 25, across selected polling units in the state’s three senatorial districts.
The exercise aims to test the upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and assess the real-time transmission of results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
