The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, as the winner of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State Governorship Election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, made the announcement on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
According to the official results, Soludo secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.
INEC disclosed that 16 political parties fielded candidates in the election. The state had 2,788,864 registered voters, out of which 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, with 11,244 rejected votes across the 21 local government areas.
Prof. Omoregie, while announcing the results, said: “The number of registered voters was 2,788,864, while accredited voters were 598,229. The total valid votes stood at 584,054, rejected votes were 11,244, and the total votes cast amounted to 595,298.”
He further explained that a few areas experienced incidents that led to cancellations in some wards across Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South LGAs, affecting a total of 10,481 votes.
“However, the margin of lead between the top candidates did not affect the overall outcome of the election,” he added.
Formally declaring the results, Omoregie stated: “I, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Returning Officer for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, hereby declare that the election was peaceful. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having scored 422,664 votes, the highest number of valid votes cast and having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
INEC’s final breakdown showed the total registered voters as 2,788,864, while the accredited voters were 598,229. The commission also noted that the valid votes were 584,054 while the rejected votes amounted to 11,244 with 595,298 total votes cast.
Soludo’s victory across all 21 local government areas of the state marks a landslide win and reaffirms his political dominance in Anambra State, four years after his first election as governor.
