NIGERIA: IGP Egbetokun Commissions 59 Armoured Vehicles To Boost Police Operations
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
The Nigeria Police Force has boosted its operational capacity with the commissioning of fifty nine armoured Toyota Hilux vehicles at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
The vehicles, which are specially built to withstand hostile fire and operate effectively in harsh terrains while offering speed, durability, and protection, were inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector General described the development as a strategic step to strengthen tactical and special units for high risk operations across the country.
He explained that the vehicles are not for ceremonial display but part of a wider framework to improve intelligence gathering, enhance field operations, and enforce accountability at all levels of policing.
Egbetokun stressed that the credibility of the police would continue to be measured by the results delivered, especially at a time when insecurity is growing in complexity and intensity across Africa and Nigeria in particular.
He directed commanders and tactical operatives to ensure that the vehicles are fully deployed and not left idle while citizens remain vulnerable to criminal attacks.
He further charged officers to use the vehicles lawfully, proportionately, and decisively in order to ensure that criminal elements no longer find safe havens in any part of the country.
The police chief assured Nigerians that the impact of the new deployment would soon be reflected in reduced crime rates and greater public confidence in the Force.
The event was witnessed by senior police officers and representatives of the Force headquarters, with the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, reaffirming the commitment of the police to securing lives and property across the nation.
