The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has commended police officers who were recently called to the Nigerian Bar, urging them to deploy their legal expertise in strengthening the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and defending the rights of Nigerians with courage and integrity.
Speaking at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, IGP Egbetokun congratulated the officers for their remarkable achievement, describing their success as not only a personal milestone but also an institutional asset to the NPF.
He gave special recognition to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Idachaba Laraba, who graduated with First Class honours from the Nigerian Law School.
According to him, such accomplishments underscore the Force’s growing pool of skilled professionals capable of upholding justice and accountability.
The IGP stressed that “every action and power exercised by the police must be grounded in, and backed by, the law,” charging the officers to apply their legal knowledge with diligence, responsibility, and fairness.
In their remarks, the newly-called officers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to pursue legal training and thanked the IGP for his continued support.
They pledged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in discharging their duties.
The development comes shortly after the NPF upgraded its Legal Section to a full Directorate, now headed by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in a move aimed at bolstering the Force’s capacity for legal and judicial engagements.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, noted that the integration of these new lawyers into the Force would further enhance accountability, professionalism, and effective policing across the country.
