The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has distanced himself from the alleged fresh plan to dethrone the 16th Emir of Kano, Mohammed Lamido Sanusi.
Reports circulating on social media, with headlines such as “Ganduje leads fresh plot to dethrone Emir Mohammad Sanusi” and “Fresh plot by Ganduje to dethrone Muhammad Sanusi as the Emir of Kano,” have been debunked by Ganduje’s camp.
In a statement issued by Chief Oliver Okpala, Senior Special Assistant on Public Enlightenment to the APC National Chairman, the allegations were dismissed as baseless. He clarified that Ganduje is not involved in the ongoing tussle surrounding the Kano Emirate.
Okpala emphasized that Ganduje is no longer the Governor of Kano State nor the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and therefore cannot be linked to any fresh plot to dethrone or enthrone anyone as Emir of Kano.
“It should be categorically stated that Dr. Ganduje has nothing to do with the current situation regarding the enthronement or dethronement of Emir Mohammad Sanusi in Kano State,” the statement read.
“Ganduje is no longer the Governor of Kano State or the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, so it’s impossible for him to have anything to do with the Emirship of Kano,” Okpala added.
The statement also addressed allegations that Ganduje is involved in advising Emir Ado Bayero to abdicate the throne, describing such claims as absurd.
“It is laughable that Dr. Ganduje, who left office as Governor years ago, is being accused of masterminding a fresh plot to remove or enthrone an Emir. According to the reports, Ganduje is not only plotting to dethrone Emir Sanusi, but is also allegedly advising Alhaji Ado Bayero to step down for peace to reign,” Okpala noted.
“These claims are preposterous and completely unfounded,” he concluded.
