NIGERIA: FRSC Launches Nationwide Crackdown On Road Violations To Curb End-of-Year Carnage
By Onoja Baba, Nigeria
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed of the Federal Road Safety Corps has ordered a sweeping nationwide deployment of personnel and operational resources, signalling an aggressive push to enforce traffic discipline and prevent road crashes during the festive season rush.
In a directive issued to all Commanding Officers across the federation, the Corps Marshal demanded full compliance with the operational guidelines of the newly launched Operation Zero Tolerance Special Patrol Exercise, leaving no room for negligence or compromise in execution.
The move underscores the FRSC’s resolute commitment to dominating highways, managing traffic flow, and safeguarding lives as millions of Nigerians embark on end-of-year travels.
The intensive operation, which kicked off on December 15, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until January 15, 2026, features round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-led interventions, rapid emergency responses, and stringent enforcement of traffic regulations.
Formations have been instructed to concentrate efforts on high-risk corridors, known crash hotspots, congestion-prone areas, and major inter-state routes, while maintaining high visibility of patrol teams to deter violations.
The special exercise comes amid heightened concerns over seasonal spikes in road traffic accidents, often fueled by speeding, overloading, night journeys, and reckless driving. By prioritising proactive presence and swift action, the FRSC aims to instil order on the roads and significantly reduce fatalities during this peak travel period.
Motorists have been urged to cooperate fully with operatives, adhere strictly to speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
The Corps Marshal reiterated that the operation reflects a zero-tolerance stance toward any lapses that endanger public safety, with offenders facing immediate sanctions.
As the festive exodus intensifies, the nationwide crackdown is expected to bring renewed discipline to Nigeria’s highways, reinforcing the FRSC’s mandate to make roads safer for all users.
