The Federal Government has announced a temporary closure of the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State for a 21-day period beginning Sunday, May 18, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday and will affect different sections of the bridge in phases. Some will be completely closed, while others will have partial closures.
Kesha explained: “The repairs will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace worn-out bearings and execute other essential maintenance work. The goal is to enhance safety and driving comfort for all road users,”
She acknowledged the likely inconvenience the closure might pose to commuters and business owners in the area but assured that necessary traffic management strategies have been put in place.
She added: “Traffic will be diverted accordingly, and officials will be stationed to guide motorists and manage the flow effectively.”
Kesha appealed to the public to cooperate with traffic officials and plan their movements in advance during the period of repair.
She noted: “Safety signs and other management tools will be deployed to reduce disruption.”
The government also issued an apology for any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause, urging patience and understanding from Lagos residents and road users
