The Federal Government of Nigeria has designated Dangote Refinery as the exclusive supplier of Jet A1 fuel to all airline operators in the country.
This development was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday.
Keyamo revealed that Nigerian airline operators recently convened and reached a consensus, with his approval, to source all their Jet A1 fuel requirements from Dangote Refinery, which has a production capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
“The decision followed a meeting of the airline operators in Nigeria, where they unanimously resolved to obtain their Jet A1 fuel exclusively from Dangote Refinery, and I have endorsed this resolution,” Keyamo explained.
He also disclosed that the federal government had entered a naira-for-crude arrangement with Dangote Refinery, which would see all transactions conducted in Naira, removing the need for foreign exchange payments.
“This agreement is timely, as we have just implemented the naira-for-crude purchase scheme. It will ease the pressure on our foreign exchange reserves,” the minister added.
Keyamo further assured that the shift to local currency transactions would help stabilize fuel prices and protect them from the volatility of the global oil market.
“Pricing will now be more predictable and insulated from the fluctuations in the international market. This arrangement will likely make Jet A1 fuel more affordable,” he concluded.
