The Federal Government has announced the disbursement of ₦50 billion to more than 8,000 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) nationwide under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) since 2023.
This was contained in a statement signed by Kamorudeen Yusuf, Personal Assistant on Special Duties to the President, and made available to newsmen on Sunday.
According to the statement, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, said the fund has significantly boosted access to primary healthcare, with over 37 million visits to PHCs recorded in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
The presidency added that ₦20 billion was allocated for the rehabilitation and upgrade of 4,362 PHCs across northern states and the Federal Capital Territory over the past two years.
The BHCPF, financed from 1% of the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund and donor contributions, is designed to deliver a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services to Nigerians.
Yusuf further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is on track to surpass the 2024 record of 2.4 million health insurance enrollments this year.
He also noted that recent reforms include a landmark executive order granting tariff waivers on raw materials for pharmaceutical production, a move expected to encourage local drug and biotech manufacturing.
“These investments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the health sector, improving PHCs, and ensuring quality care at all levels of service delivery,” t
